Description
The waterfalls of Drymona are located in northern Evia, in the municipality of Mantoudi - Limni - Agia Anna, between Drymona and Kerasia, at 620 meters altitude. The point is near the Monastery of Saint David, 20 kilometers from Rovies and 25 from the Limni.
It is part of the river Sepia, which forms in Xiron Oros and flows into the northern Evia. It does not have a constant flow of water but mainly drains the surrounding waters of Xiron Oros and in the summer months the waterfalls usually have no flow at all. The falls consist of a network of streams and three waterfalls that create two small lakes. The tallest of them falls with momentum from a height of 15 meters. The area is landscaped, with a small network of paths, bridges and benches.
The biodiversity of the area is very rich. The dense forests that surround it consist mainly of black pines, oaks and halepian pines. Other trees that grow near the falls are sycamores, maples, oaks, cedars and elms and many kinds of flowers. The fauna includes many forest and mountain river species, from raptors such as kestrels, falcons and peregrine falcons to nocturnal predators such as owls and owls. The avifauna is complemented by species such as woodpeckers, quails, cuckoos, woodpeckers and many others. The water system of the falls is an ideal habitat for small animals such as amphibians, reptiles and insects that live in small mountain lakes and streams but also mammals such as foxes, weasels, badgers, hedgehogs, hares, moles and various bats.
At the falls there are many hiking trails while canyoning descents are also organized.
