Description
The Museum of Fossilized Mammals in Kerasia, North Evia, displays exhibits from the fossilized forest of Kerasia, with an age of up to 20,000,000 years.
Between the villages of Agia Anna, Kerasia and Pappades lies an impressive monument of nature: the Petrified Forest of Kerasia, with an age that reaches 20,000,000 years.
The Forest is one of the few of its kind both in Greece and worldwide, and is an undisputed must-see attraction.
Touring its paths will take you back to another era, when the world was very different from the one we know today.
Giant fossilized sequoias, oaks and fossils of many vertebrates, such as rhinoceros, are some of the impressive images you will come across.
To facilitate your tour and to better understand the prehistoric period, do not miss visiting the Paleolithic Artifacts Museum located in the central square of Kerasia.
The Museum has been operating since 2006 and its exhibition includes finds from the Petrified Forest, as well as rich explanatory material.
The area is a magnet for many visitors as well as international scientists, as it is of enormous paleontological and historical interest.
