Description
One of the surviving findings from the Roman period are the baths in the "Cave of Silla". It is located behind the EOT hydrotherapy center near the church of Saint Anargyri in the settlement of Loutra Edipsos. The Cave of Silla is a small building with a dome.
The entire building has been covered by the deposits of the sulphurous waters that spring up in the area and gives the impression that it is a cave entrance. At the entrance of the Cave are two massive statue pedestals with inscriptions in honor of the Roman emperors Andrianus and Septimius Severus dedicated by the municipality of Istiaia. The first bears a later inscription in honor of Emperor Constantine of Byzantium. The Cave was associated with the Roman general Silla, who visited the baths for treatment. There is the opinion, however, that this is a later monument, which simply took his name.
