The gorge of Bulovinaina

Outside the village of Agia Anna, 3 kilometers west in a mountainous area there is a famous gorge, the gorge of Bulovinaina. History states that during the revolution of 1821 Bulovinaina, wanting to avoid the Turks, fell into it and from then on got its name.
More specifically, you say that during the period of the Turkish occupation, in a cave in the gorge, around 40 people were hiding from the Turks, among them Bolovinaina. For some reason, Bolovinaina went out of the gorge, and as she was turning, the Turks spotted her. In order not to fall into their hands, but also not to betray the hideout, Bolovinaina fell into the gorge.

Through the gorge flows the river Nileas, which has its sources in Mount Xiros. The gorge is only 3 kilometers from Agia Anna and the visitor arrives through the settlement of Paleovrysi.

The gorge is also called Arapis. It probably got its name from the ancient legend that said that the sheep that drank water from the banks of the Nile gave birth to black sheep.
